26 Acts of Kindness

I'm sure by now you have all read about the random acts of kindness people are doing in memory of those that lost their lives last week in CT. A friend of mine over at Kelly Gorney Photography / KGP Shoppe posted these free downloadable RAOK tags. Pretty awesome, right? I loved the idea of honoring each person individually.

We decided this morning was the perfect time to do this. We printed the tags, made a list and hit the road. After each act, we handed (or it was included) the tag. Our list included:

Acts 1-5: Helping people load groceries into their car. Surprisingly this is where most people were very hesitant to have us help. You'd think 10am on a Sunday morning would help assure people we were there to do good, but we were actually turned down by two people and it took the others a little to warm up to the idea.

Act 6: We bought a $5 gift card at Starbucks and passed it to the man behind us.

Act 7: We bought a $10 gift card at Red Robin and because we were the first people at the restaurant, we left it with the Hostess to give to the first patrons of the day along with the tag.

Act 8: We bought the order of the person behind us in the drive-thru. Because it was barely 11am, we actually had to wait in the Wendy's drive-thru for another car to pull up behind us.

Act 9-14: The kids handed out handmade "Have a nice day" cards to strangers. It was amazing how much people's faces lit up with just a simple card.

Act 15: We took baked goods to the local Police Substation and met the nicest officer.

Act 16-17: We left a small bouquet of flowers on the windshield of two cars.

Act 18: We took a bag filled with art supplies (construction paper, crayons, markers, kid scissors, and glue sticks) to the local ER for kids in the waiting room.

Acts 19-21: We taped change to vending machines in the ER waiting room.

Act 22: We took baked goods to the Fire Department near our house.

Acts 23-26: We baked chocolate chip cookies and delivered them to a few houses in our neighborhood.

I'm so glad we did this. I'd like to think that at least one act was passed on.
