2008 OBX Marathon

About 2.5 years ago I got the idea in my head to run a half marathon. Caedmon was a baby still and I thought signing up for a half would hold me accountable and get me back into the swing of working out. So two years ago Matt and I ran in our first half marathon in the NC Outer Banks (OBX). Overall it was a fun experience, beautiful area - sadly it was chilly and raining when our marathon day rolled around, but we ran anyway along w/ both of my sisters and Matt's mom.

I finished in 2 hours, 32 minutes and 41 seconds...not terrible for never running more than maybe 7 consecutive miles before that day.

Matt finished in 2 hours, 17 minutes and 40 seconds.

Last year Savannah was newborn so we opted not to run.

This year Matt ran and I stayed with the kids. Next year I'll run again...better planning on my part. In fact we're thinking about doing an 8K or a half in VA Beach for the "Shamrock" run in late March.

This year Matt finished the 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles) in one hour, 54 minutes and 15 seconds. Our friend, Garrett, also ran his first marathon. He completed the race in two hours, 13 minutes and 46 seconds. Donna, Matt's mom, finished in two hours, 14 minutes, and 59 seconds.

Donna's friend, Paula, from Binghamton NY came down for the run. Paula managed to win 2nd in her age group and set a personal record with a time of 1 hour, 57 minutes, and 48 seconds.

They all did a great job and every single one of them beat my record (haha, not hard to do).

Here is a weekend recap in pictures:

Fun Run
Saturday morning we did the Fun Run (the idea is that you complete 25 miles prior to that day and it's here where you finish your "marathon" by run/walking the last 1.2 miles). Savannah happily napped in the stroller during this whole time. This was Caedmon's race. Too bad a few hundred people really overwhelm a 3 foot tall, 2.5 year old. On top of the crowd, Caedmon was tired from being up late the night before. It took some doing to get him out of his shell and running. But we managed....the 2nd picture is of Caedmon "carb loading" before his big run! :)

Woohoo! Way to go Matt! And good job on the carb loading, Caed. :) That's Owen's favorite bulk-up breakfast, too.
